Jones
“In a world drained of colour, some truths bleed through.”
Support!
In a world drained of colour and life, one encounter with a fearless dancer unravels the vibrant truths hidden beneath grey surfaces—revealing that sometimes, the boldest hues emerge only when faced with the deepest shadows.
How “Jones” stand out.
Jones is different from other LGBTQI+ stories because it subverts the idea that achieving self-acceptance leads to a happy, static ending. Instead, the narrative exposes the harsh truth: even when we’re comfortable in our identities, we remain vulnerable to the forces that resist our visibility. This is captured through the twisted end, where Thomas’s journey toward colour and individuality collides with a grim reality—a stark reminder that society’s shadows can remain relentless.
I wrote Jones as a deeply personal expression, pulling from my own life and experiences to create a portrait of the battles we fight within ourselves. For me, this story goes beyond the typical narrative of LGBTQI+ resilience. It isn’t just about the struggle for acceptance or self-discovery; it’s a reminder that even when we feel we’ve found our place, the fight doesn’t end there. Life, for many of us, continues to throw challenges, and Jones embodies this reality, portraying an ongoing clash between self-acceptance and a world that often demands conformity.
Through this lens, Jones stands out as an exploration of inner and outer battles, a narrative that resonates with anyone who’s faced the cyclical challenges of embracing and defending their truth. It’s a tale of bold defiance against an unforgiving backdrop—one that insists the struggle for liberation never truly ends, even when we’re ready to step into our fullest selves.

How We Plan to Make It Happen
Backed by a team of talented film graduates committed to meaningful storytelling, we’ve crafted a detailed plan to bring Jones to life. Our funding will cover:
• Casting & Talent: Hiring skilled actors, including two pole dancers, to bring authenticity and depth to our characters.
• Crew: A passionate team including a cinematographer, editor, costume designer, makeup artist, and a consent consultant to ensure a safe, respectful set.
• Locations: Renting key Sydney locations—an apartment, office, and nightclub—that support the story’s visual shift from gray to color.
• Production Essentials: Covering high-quality equipment, costumes, set design, and props for an immersive look and feel.
• Post-Production: Editing, color grading, and sound design to polish every detail in the final cut.
We’re ready to tackle challenges with a realistic timeline to complete filming and head into post-production in the coming months.
Risks and Challenges
Creating an independent film like Jones comes with its share of challenges, but we’ve prepared thoughtful strategies to tackle each one:
1. Budget Constraints
As an indie project, managing a limited budget is one of our biggest challenges. We’ve prioritized essentials—skilled professionals, equipment, and key locations—to ensure every dollar counts. Extra support from this campaign will enhance the film’s creative quality.
2. Scheduling & Locations
Coordinating cast, crew, and location availability in Sydney can be tricky. We’ve built flexibility into our schedule, secured backup locations, and maintain open communication to keep production on track.
3. Post-Production Demands
With a strong focus on visual storytelling, post-production is crucial. We’re working with a dedicated editor and sound team early on to stick to realistic timelines and deliver a polished final cut.
4. Technical Issues
Unexpected equipment or lighting problems can happen. To stay ahead, we’ll have backups available and rely on our experienced cinematographer and crew to troubleshoot quickly.
5. Safety & Consent on Set
With emotionally charged scenes and intimate performances, safety and respect are paramount. We’ve brought on a consent consultant and embedded clear communication and consent practices into every step of production.
Our Commitment
We’re a passionate, adaptable team with a track record of creative problem-solving. If challenges arise, we’ll stay transparent with our backers and focused on delivering a film that reflects our vision and values.
